If the bank loaned the home owner money to buy the house in the first place, and then they buy it back at auction, isn’t the bank paying for the same house twice.

I know the situation is worse now for people with ok - bad credit trying to buy a house, but is it impossible? I have a repossession from three years ago. I still have about $5000 to pay on it. I was at a house auction the other day and it was looking pretty dead. The only person who bid was some mysterious bidder on the phone. I have a strong suspicion that this person was made up to pressure us into outbidding him to buy the house.
The phantom ended up winning the bid but it was “passed in” because it didnt meet the reserve.
Is phantom bidding a legal tactic used to pressure other bidders to outbid them?

I know I am responsible to pay that but what do I need to do? Do I call the bank and request a payoff or do I make the monthly payments on that loan? Can I do this if the first is in the buyers name?

I see these newspaper articles about real estate auctions. There are the regular county auctions (sheriffs auctions) that real estate companies buy to sell for profit later at their own house auctions. Regardless of who hold auctions, is the winning bid real the total cost of buying a house from the auction? Can you buy a house from an auction for say few thousands dollars? I can’t google the real estate buying process. Where I can learn about the process of buying houses?
